Police seeking suspect in double Southside murders

Even though city officials say crime in Monroe is at its lowest, murders and shooting continue. Southside Monroe is still reeling from a double homicide a week apart, with the second funeral occurring at a memorial wake service for the first victim.
Robert Coleman

Two weeks ago on September 14, the police were investigating the shooting death of Christopher Coleman who was found on the scene at the 1700 block of S. 6th Street.

A week later, as Coleman’s family and friends mourned his death at Smith Funeral Home, a mourner, Darrell Stevenson, was murdered outside of the funeral home. Stevenson’s death is reportedly connected to Coleman’s death.

Police were still searching for Robert K. Coleman, who is wanted for questioning in the death.

Residents of the area are uneasy because it appears that a series of retaliation murders may soon occur and they don’t want to be in the crossfire.
