Qualifying begins next week for Monroe, Richwood positions

The upcoming municipal elections in Monroe and the nearby town of Richwood, scheduled for December 13-15, are shaping up to be highly competitive, with several candidates, including current incumbents, poised to qualify for various positions.

Mayor of Monroe: A Three-Way Contest so far

In Monroe, the mayoral race is attracting considerable attention. Incumbent Mayor Oliver Friday Ellis, while yet to formally announce, is widely expected to seek re-election. He faces competition from former Mayor James Earl “Jamie” Mayo, who has already declared his intention to run, focusing his campaign on tackling crime.

Additionally, Betty Ward Cooper, a figure with a strong background in education and community service, has also announced her bid, emphasizing education and crime reduction in her grassroots campaign.
