Reggie Brown has been reinstated to his job with the Monroe Police Department, given back pay, and a promotion.
The action came as a result of a unanimous vote by the Monroe Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board on March 17.
Brown was terminated in the aftermath of an excessive force complaint filed by a homeless man in which a Monroe Police officer kicked the victim in the face.
Brown was accused of delaying the process because reports might impact the Monroe Mayoral election. Brown denied the claims.
Brown, who was interim police chief at the time, was later fired by the new police chief Victor Zordan. Brown claimed his firing was politically based and that he followed all procedures.
He initially lost all appeals to the Civil Service Board but, last week the board dropped its complaints.
Brown will be granted back pay, legal fees and has in the interim been promoted from Corporal to Sargeant.
He is now back on the job.
