Rev. Reuben Oliver is still shaken, but well, after surviving a mugging recently as he walked in his Oregon Trail neighborhood.
The Reverend Oliver, the pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church, is crediting the power of a protective God for his escape from serious injury in a mugging and attempted robbery on Saturday, January 18th.
Oliver’s wife, Sue Oliver made the following public post on social media this week:
“Feeling thankful, blessed, and favored!!! To repost a previous post about Pastor Oliver’s words about God’s protection and provision was manifested on last Saturday night when he was attacked by several young men while coming home from walking around the old State Farm Parking Lot.
“They jumped him, hit him beside his face, knocked him to the ground, took his cell phone and asked him for money. He told them he didn’t have any and they walked away.
“The outcome could have been much different. The eyes of the Lord were watching him and protecting him.”
“Through this attack, he was able to get up, walk home, call the police. He did all this before calling me at the hospital while I was visiting with the family of a member who had a massive heart attack in the ICU unit at St. Francis.”
“When I got home and saw the huge knot on his face and took his blood pressure that had gone up to 219, we immediately went to the emergency room. Through this visit we learned of another health issue that we would not have known about until it may have been an emergency situation or too late. But thanks be to God for his protection and His daily watch over us, that His favor was upon us and Pastor Oliver is out of the hospital and us doing good!
“It is another day’s journey and we are glad about it!!! Psalms 91 was also manifested in this situation!!! God is an awesome God, He reigns in Heaven and earth! No weapons formed against us shall prosper!!! Thank all of the brothers and sisters in Christ that prayed and are praying for us. To God be the glory!!!! Love and blessings!
Monroe police have not located any suspects in the mugging.
