The Richwood Rams boys’ basketball team etched their name in the history books once again, capturing their sixth state championship in school history with a commanding 85-67 victory over the defending champions, the Marksville Tigers, in the LHSAA Division III Non-Select title game.
The electrifying showdown took place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, marking a triumphant return to the top for the storied program.

Under the steady leadership of Head Coach Terry Martin, the Rams showcased their dominance throughout the game, pulling away in the second half to secure the win.
The victory ends a 13-year championship drought for Richwood, whose last title came in 2012 under Martin’s guidance.
With this triumph, Coach Martin adds a third state championship to his illustrious tenure at Richwood High School, further solidifying his legacy as one of Louisiana’s most successful high school basketball coaches.
Martin, who has amassed over 700 wins during his time at Richwood, expressed pride in his team’s resilience and determination.
“These boys worked hard all season, and tonight they showed what they’re made of,” Martin said after the game.
“Marksville is a tough team, but our guys stayed focused and executed the game plan perfectly.”
The Rams’ journey to the championship was marked by standout performances and a balanced attack that overwhelmed opponents. In the title game, Richwood’s fast-paced offense and stifling defense proved too much for Marksville, who struggled to keep pace after a competitive first half. The Rams pulled ahead with a decisive third-quarter run, fueled by sharp shooting and relentless pressure on both ends of the court.
For Richwood High School, this victory adds to an impressive basketball legacy that includes six state titles, three of which have come under Coach Martin’s leadership. The win also serves as a testament to the program’s enduring excellence, having now claimed championships across multiple decades.
Fans packed the stands in Lake Charles, erupting in celebration as the final buzzer sounded, marking the end of a memorable season and the beginning of a new chapter in Richwood Rams lore. As the team hoisted the trophy, the message was clear: the Rams are back on top, and under Terry Martin’s guidance, they show no signs of slowing down.
With the 2025 championship now in the books, Richwood looks ahead to building on this success, as Coach Martin and his squad aim to keep the winning tradition alive in the years to come.
