Saturday Services set for Allen Calhoun, Sr., 85

The community of Bosco, LA is preparing to bid farewell to a cherished member, Deacon Allen A. Calhoun, Sr., affectionately known as “Lil Brother.” Calhoun passed away on October 14, 2024, at the age of 85.

Born on November 28, 1938, Calhoun was a pillar of his community, known for his skills in repairing appliances and air conditioners. He served as a deacon and was a dedicated member of Union Missionary Baptist Church of Bosco, LA. After a 30-year career with Safeway, Calhoun retired but continued to touch lives with his ever-present smile and words of encouragement.

Calhoun was predeceased by his wife, Leola Bates Calhoun, daughter LaRitta Calhoun, and son Allen A. Calhoun Jr. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Calhoun, son Gerald D. Dunn, granddaughters Tameka Calhoun Burns (Robert) and Alexis Dunn, and great-grandson Robert Burns Jr. He also leaves behind three sisters: Lula Magee, Linda Coleman, and Glenda Joshua; and four brothers: Alvin, Frank, Abram, and Purvis Calhoun.

The funeral service will be held at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 4314 Highway 165 S, Monroe, Louisiana, on October 19, 2024, at 11:00 am. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on October 18, 2024, at Hester Central State Funeral Home from 2-7 pm.

Deacon Calhoun’s passing leaves a void in the community, but his legacy of kindness, dedication, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
