The Southside Economic Development District has accepted the results of last month’s election approving a 2 percent hotel tax for Southside Hotels.
In a special call meeting Monday night at its headquarters the SEDD Board of Commissioners officially approved the results of the November election in which 82 percent of the voters approved the program.
Charles Theus, executive director of SEDD, said the commissioners also discussed hiring an accountant for the firm, but made no decision. The selection of an accountant for the group has stalled because one person being considered shares free office space with board President Gladys Smith and questions have been raised as to whether that would be a conflict of interest.
