A man known to be so loyal to Carroll High School that he had blue and gold in his veins died last week and will be memorialized in services Saturday at the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church.
Carl Dewayne Calloway, Sr., a revered figure in the Monroe community and an individual whose unwavering commitment to his alma mater, Carroll High School, left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him, was affectionately known as “CC” by his friends and family.

Calloway’s life was defined by his deep connection to Carroll High School and its spirit, which he embodied with his undeniable blue and gold pride. Born on April 1, 1965, in Monroe, Louisiana, to the late Will Washington and Mary Calloway Wade, Calloway’s journey began at Lincoln Elementary School. He navigated the challenges of integration and continued his education at Sherrouse Elementary School, Carroll Junior High School, Lee Junior High School, and Neville Senior High School, eventually graduating from Carroll Senior High School in the Class of 1984.
