Born November 24, 1947, to the late Bobby and Sarah Johnson Jefferson in Monroe, Louisiana, Jefferson was the tenth of 15 children. Known affectionately as “Bub,” he was remembered as a family character who kept people laughing with his comical antics. He was known for talking rapidly, often leaving listeners uncertain about the conversation topic.

An avid Bible reader, Jefferson frequently engaged in conversations about God and challenged those who contested his knowledge. He was also recognized for his artistic talents, drawing beautiful women adorned in elegant gowns and makeup.

Jefferson’s education began at Swayze Elementary School in Monroe, Louisiana, and continued through Richwood High School in the same city. Following graduation, he attended Grambling College, majoring in Speech and Drama.

Baptized at an early age under the leadership of the late Reverend J. H. Housley, Jefferson was active in Sunday School and the Senior Choir. He worked at the Plymouth Rubber Company in West Monroe, Louisiana, until his retirement.

As a family-oriented individual, Jefferson regularly gathered younger family members for parties and talent shows. His playful nature extended to giving nicknames to relatives that would provoke them.

Jefferson spent over 15 years in nursing facilities, where staff became familiar with his colorful language. During visits, he would conclude by saying, “Pray for me.”

Jefferson was a member of St. Joe Baptist Church in Rhymes, LA, was baptized in Richland Parish, LA, and worshipped under several pastors including the late Reverend J. H. Housley, Reverend C. H. Nash, Reverend Reuben Oliver, Sr., and current Pastor Reverend Jason Cooper.

He was preceded in death by ten siblings: Edell “Marie” Smith, Robert Jefferson, Billy Jefferson, Jesse Jefferson, Joe Jefferson, Wayman Jefferson, Leo Jefferson, Johnnie Lee Butler, Charles Jefferson, and Clarence Jefferson.
