The community gathered on September 7, 2024, to bid farewell to LaSandra Gail Sledge, a beloved member of the Monroe community.
The funeral service was held at the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church, where Sister Sledge had been a faithful member until her passing.
LaSandra Sledge, known affectionately as Gail, passed away on August 30, 2024, at her residence in Monroe, Louisiana. She was 61 years old.
Born on July 27, 1963, in Monroe, Louisiana, to the late Dorothy Lee and Thomas Sledge, Jr., Gail was remembered as an outgoing, energetic, and caring individual who grew up on Thomas Street and Burg Jones Lane. Her love for her family and her commitment to her community were hallmarks of her character.
As a devoted member of Greater Free Gift Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Rodney McFarland, Sr., Sister Sledge’s faith played a central role in her life.
LaSandra was preceded in death by her daughter, RhuShunda Sledge; brother, Thomas Sledge, III; and her parents, Thomas and Dorothy Sledge. She is survived by her son, Darrell Sledge (Carolyn); grandson, Nicholas Sledge; siblings Jacqueline Miles (Anthony), Monica Elliott (Richard), Tyrone Miles (Cara), Ricky McCarthy (Ilean), and Gerald Miles (April); and her special friend, James Anding. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The sixth of seven children, LaSandra’s loss is deeply felt by her large and loving family. Her legacy of care, faith, and community involvement will continue to inspire those who knew her.
The funeral service at Greater Free Gift Baptist Church was a celebration of LaSandra’s life and a testament to the impact she had on her community. Friends, family, and fellow church members gathered to share memories and honor the life of a woman who touched many hearts during her 61 years.
