Social media fired up over Youth Encampment Closure

The Louisiana Baptist Youth Encampment is not being held this year, for the first time in its 79 year history.

The Encampment was at one time the largest assembly of Louisiana Baptist Youth in the country. It met at both Grambling State University and the Southern University Campus.

This year, for the first time, there will be no Baptist Youth Encampment, and social media has lit up as dismayed youth and former campers expressed their disappointment.

According to Dr. Calvin Woods, director of the Encampment, the blame for the camp’s closure lies with Dillard University that did not give convention officials enough prior notice that the camp could not be held on its campus.

Posting on Facebook, Dr. Woods said, “There is no camp this year because Dillard University gave us the approval too late to contact everyone. Therefore, with the consultation of our leaders, we canceled it for this year.”
