Black elected officials and business and civic leaders met Saturday in a town hall meeting to urge support of the “Southside Dream.”
The Black community’s “Southside Dream” is a 25-year plan to reduce crime, develop safe neighborhoods, improve education and attract economic development to Monroe’s Southside.
Sonya Jacobs, president of the Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce, said the Black chamber’s goal was to facilitate discussion and action on issues that affect minority business opportunities in several parishes in Northeast Louisiana.
Kenya Roberson, executive director of the Black Chamber, said leaders were called to meet to understand and support the “Southside Dream,” a written plan of action that targets problems in South Monroe.
