State group threatens suit against McCoy, School Board over prayer

The Ouachita Parish School Board and specifically Rev. Harold McCoy are the targets of legal complaints from a state organization complaining that the board’s practice of saying Christian prayers before board meetings is a violation of the law.

The Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF) has filed a complaint against Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, alleging that the parish is violating the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution by promoting religion.

A local Ouachita Parish resident has complained to the FFRF that the school board begins each of its meetings with a Christian prayer. Rev. McCoy is a Baptist pastor, and one of his prayers…
