Tew brings formal charges against cop in brutality case

The officer accused of abusing a homeless man and kicking him in the face has been formally charged, sidestepping a grand jury.

District Attorney Steve Tew said Tuesday that his office has formally charged Jared Desadier with 1 count of Second Degree Battery and 1 count of Malfeasance in Office related to an April 21, 2020 incident involving the victim, Timothy Williams.

Tew said although Desadier was booked by the Monroe Police on charges they felt were applicable, the formal charges are actually brought by the District Attorney’s office.

Tew said his office decided not to go with a grand jury indictment but to bring the charges directly.
