Last week Governor Jeff Landry announced the appointment of Tony Clayton as the new chairman of the Southern University System Board of Supervisors, effective January 1, 2025.
Clayton, a career prosecutor and current district attorney for the 18th Judicial District, will replace Myron Lawson, who has served on the board since 1998.
The appointment comes as part of Governor Landry’s push for education reform and stricter criminal justice measures. Clayton, a Southern University alumnus, has been a vocal supporter of Landry’s proposals, appearing before legislative panels to advocate for them.
