A request by Southside Economic Development District (SEDD) President Tony Little to authorize the final $12,889.66 payment to a contractor for renovations on the Arizona Street project has triggered controversy, with some board members insisting the work remains incomplete and raising concerns about possible mold in the building.
The payment, earmarked for contractor Ron Calhoun, was part of a $36,000 renovation contract awarded to RK Construction.
Last month, Little issued more than $24,000 to RK Construction in payments toward the project.
On Monday, Little asked the city’s finance department to cut the final check immediately, even though the board had not voted to accept the project as complete and it was not included on the Monday agenda.
