Winder: Retired Southern University Administrator has Passion for Design

You may see party-goers dancing in a straight line moving to the beat, party guests waving handkerchiefs in the air, or the leader of the line dancing with an elaborate umbrella, but if you are not from south Louisiana, you may not have a clue about what is going on.

What these guests are doing is the Second Line. It is a New Orleans tradition where people follow the brass band in parades by dancing, hence the term “second line”. This tradition is carried to all parts of the world by New Orleanians who have migrated to different areas.  Amid all the excitement…
