Wossman boys win another basketball championship

The Wossman Wildcats Boys’ Basketball Team cemented their dominance in Louisiana high school basketball, defending their LHSAA Division II non-select state championship title with a hard-fought 50-44 victory over the Bossier Bearkats on Saturday night at the Burton Coliseum Complex.

In a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the top-seeded Wildcats showcased their resilience and teamwork to secure back-to-back titles under the leadership of Head Coach Casey Jones. For Jones, this win marks his second state championship with Wossman, having led the team to glory in 2024, and his third overall as a head coach. Jones previously claimed a state title with Ouachita Parish High School in 2009, making his tenth trip to Burton Coliseum a triumphant milestone.

The Bossier Bearkats, a perennial powerhouse with multiple championships over the past 15 years, put up a fierce fight but ultimately fell short by six points. Despite the loss, Bossier senior Zion Weeks earned player-of-the-game honors for his standout performance, dazzling the crowd with his skill and determination.

The game was a defensive battle from the start, with both teams trading baskets and refusing to give an inch. Wossman pulled ahead in the final minutes, capitalizing on key plays and clutch free throws to seal the 50-44 win. The Wildcats’ victory sparked wild celebrations among players and fans alike, as they hoisted the championship trophy for the second consecutive year.

For Coach Jones, the repeat championship is a testament to the program’s consistency and the dedication of his players.

“This group has heart,” Jones said after the game.

“They fought for every point, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished together.”
