17-year-old arrested in connection to Robinson place shooting

A 17-year-old male was arrested today in connection with the June 27, 2017 shooting death of Junius Benton in the Robinson Place neighborhood on Monroe’s Southside.

Last night, Monroe Police officers were sent to the 5400 block of Long Drive in reference to a shooting. During the incident, one victim, Benton, was shot and later died during an altercation involving several people in the street.

According to the police, during the incident, several people were observed firing handguns. Jaylon Brown was identified as one of the individuals in the incident. Brown was taken to the Monroe Police Department where he was mirandized and admitted to being involved in the altercation and also admitted to firing a handgun one time during the incident. Brown was arrested and transported to OCC. He was charged with illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities/weapons law violation.
