In a ceremony attended by hundreds at the Monroe Civic Center Monday, Mayor Oliver Friday Ellis was sworn in for his second term as Mayor of Monroe.
The event also saw the swearing-in of city council members Doug Harvey, Mrs. Gretchen Ezernak, Mrs. Juanita Woods, Bishop Rodney McFarland, and Minister Verbon Muhammad.
Mayor Ellis, with his wife Ashley holding the Bible, took the oath of office.
In an emotional inaugural speech, sprinkled with sniffles and delivered via teleprompter, Ellis expressed gratitude to his family for their support in his efforts to improve Monroe.
