Birds flop before they fly

By Rusty Potter

Have you ever watched a young bird leave the nest? Before it soars through the sky, it often flaps awkwardly, stumbles, and even falls. It doesn’t begin as a skilled flyer. It learns through trial and error.

Life works the same way.

Many people want success without mistakes, achievement without struggle, and victory without setbacks. But growth comes with a few flops before we learn to fly. Every successful person has experienced failures, disappointments, and moments when things didn’t go as planned.

A child falls many times before learning to walk. An athlete loses games before winning a championship. A student makes mistakes before mastering a subject. The flop is often part of the process.

Too many people quit after their first setback. They assume that failure means they are not capable. In reality, failure is evidence that they are trying. The bird doesn’t stop flapping because it falls. It keeps flapping until flying becomes natural.

The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 24:16, “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again.” The key is not avoiding every fall; it’s getting back up.

If you have stumbled in your career, finances, relationships, or goals, don’t let that stop you. Your flop may simply be preparation for your flight. The lesson learned during the struggle often becomes the strength needed for success.

Birds flap their wings before they fly. Don’t be discouraged by a temporary fall. Keep learning, keep growing, and keep moving forward. One day, what feels like a flop today may become the very thing that teaches you how to soar.

Don’t let a fall keep you on the ground when God created you to fly.
