Christians! Ministers! Legislators! Parents! Monroyans pray against gambling in Monroe!!!!!

By: Dr. Jacquelyn Simmons

To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ… Grace be unto you, and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ… (Colossians 1:2).

Dear Lord our heavenly Father,

This servant of yours is very distressed over outside and inside forces trying to force “gambling dives” on us here in Monroe, Louisiana under the pretense of helping our communities to “grow wealthy”. If they are successful, we certainly will “grow wealthy” but in the wrong directions——wealth to them!!! Why is “filth” always “dumped” on us? The only ones who will actually benefit from it live far away such as in other cities, states and maybe countries—places where by “hook or crook” we are not allowed to visit or live. It is painful and mind-boggling to know that we have Judases, Benedict Arnolds, Brutuses, etc., living among us. Jesus had Judas in his company of disciples night and day. How much closer can a betraying friend get?

The Apostle Paul warned the people in Colossae by saying, “be ware lest any man spoil you take you captive through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments (basic principles) of the world, and not after Christ… and ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principalities and power… plotting out the handwriting of ordinances that were against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross (Colossians 2: 8,10,14).

Father, it is very distressing for me not to see members of your christian communities “stepping up to the plate” and speaking loudly against these terrible acts being leveled upon us, your people. According to your word, aren’t you holding us accountable for the souls of your flock (Acts 20:27-31)? Do they fear our enemies more than they fear you??? Wow!!!! Unbelievable!!!!!!!

Lord, where are your younger Reverend John Russells, Sr. and sons, Reverend Roosevelt Wrights and sons, Reverend Dr. Lawrence Martins, Reverend F. D. Nash’s, Dr. John Reddix’s, Reverend E. J. Joneses and others? We commend and pray for Rev. Ambrose Douzart and others. Where are their replacements? Are they like Jesus Christ’s disciples who fled to the safety of the upper room except for John who was at Jesus’ trial and crucifixion?

Could it be that many of your populace is so engrossed in “gazing” and “pecking” on cell phones and computers until they are not aware of our enemies approaching swiftly upon us? Please have mercy on us, Lord. Many of your people now-a-days need tranquilizers when both or one is missing, not working or batteries too low for them to function properly. They are allowing them to replace you in their hearts and lives. How dangerous! Children are being taught to look to them for their everything—parents, friends, counselors, ministers, leaders, etc. Oh Lord! Please forgive and have mercy on us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

P.S. In our text for this message, the Apostle Paul is writing a letter to the Colossians which certainly reflects our needs today
(Colossians 1:2).

P.S. P.S. My friends, do you know that whoever mistreats or treats kindly God’s people, they are persecuting or treating kindly, his son, Jesus Christ? (Matthew 25: 35-40). Pray for Jesus’ persecutors . God is moved with the feelings of our infirmities, also (Hebrews 4:15). Remember, Jesus loves you.
