As the Lord and I pen this message on this beautiful morning, I am captivated by His goodness and love for us. So, together let us say “HALLELUJAH! Thank You, Father, for this brand-new day!!
Are you a friend, family member or church member who “go along to get along?” In other words, “Do you accept negativity and willful disobedience against the Word of God to obtain friendship? Or do you share with them the right thing to do according to God’s will and His way?”
One of my favorite stories and/or accounts in the Bible is the story of David and his friend Johnathan. Although David has been at the helm of this story and exposed in many ways of how God used him, it is Jonathan who invites interest and appeal to my thoughts at this moment.
In the Word of God (1 Smauel), God had chosen David to be king of Israel, after he denounced and stripped Saul of his kingship (1 Sam 16). In many instances throughout the account of David and Saul, God put an evil spirit in Saul which gave him a strong desire to kill David because he felt that David was a threat to the throne. Interestingly, God used Jonathan to run interference against his own father to save and preserve David’s life. Not only was Jonathan used to preserve the life of his friend, but he was used to protect the life and lineage of God’s Son, Jesus, also.
How Jonathan handled his father when he sought to kill David was admirable and brave. Although Jonathan did not disrespect or belittle his father, he tried to get him to understand that David had not done anything wrong that warranted his demise. The Word of God declares, “And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, ‘Why should he be killed? What has he done?’ Then Saul cast a spear at him to kill him, by which Jonathan knew that it was determined by his father to kill David” (1 Samuel 20:32-33 NKJV).
Johnathan did not go along with wrong to get along with his father (1 Samuel 20:33). As a result, King Saul threw a Javelin at him and tried to kill him, also. Even though people may despise you for trying to right the wrongs, do not hesitate to always tell them what is right. Yes, they may throw a “javelin” at you, but God has chosen you to run interference to preserve what is right. So, like Jonathan, do not go along with someone’s wrong to get along.
