Drunk Hit and run driver, booked on drug charges too!

It’s bad to drive drunk, but when the drunk driver becomes a hit and run suspect things gets worse. It gets even worse when you cops finally catch you and your car is loaded with beer,drugs, and pipes. It gets even worse when your alcohol blood content is twice the legal limit.

That was the case Saturday night when the State Police arrested Melissa Hinson Watkins, 23, of Bastrop on charges of hit and run, DWI second offense, possession of alcoholic beverages in a moving vehicle, possession of marijuana,Possession of Citalopram, Posssession of Buspirone, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Here’s the officer’s report: The driver was involved in a two vehicle crash on LA 139 at LA 594. The driver left the crash scene. The driver was located at an address on LA 139 in Morehouse Parish.

Upon coming into contact with the driver I detected an overwhelming odor associated with an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath as she spoke. The driver stated she had been drinking beer. I asked the driver to perform SFST in which the driver performed poorly.

The driver was placed under arrest. During an inventory of the driver’s vehicle. I located a bag of marijuana, an unmarked pill bottle containing 4 Citalpram and 19 Buspirone. I also located three pipes the driver state she used to smoke marijuana. Several empty beer bottle were located in the passenger floorboard. The driver was transported to OCC where she was read her rights related to test for intoxication. The driver was then offered a breath test on the intoxilyzer 9000. The driver submitted to the state’s test and registered .168g%
