Education: the “great equalizer”

By: Rusty Potter

Horace Mann (American educator) said, “ Education then, beyond all other devices of human origin, is the great equalizer of the conditions of men, the balance – wheel of the social machinery.”

An education has the power to create opportunities for the poor and the rich. It gives hope to the hopeless. We all have the right to a good education. Education has the ability to turn a poor person into a rich person. The smartest people in the world are always asking questions. Great leaders are always asking questions. They are also life long learners.

The rich teach their children to acquire wealth. The middle class parents teach their children to sell. The poor teach their children to be consumers. We must pass on the priceless gift of a good education. A child can become elevated by obtaining a good education. An education will open the doors of opportunities for everyone. Education has the power to make dreams possible and to elevate people out of poverty.
