Funeral Services Saturday for churchwoman Alma Moore

Funeral services will be held Saturday for a woman who spent her life in the service others.

Services for Alma Jean Leonard Moore will be held Saturday, November 16th at the New Tabernacle Baptist Church at 11 a.m.

Mrs. Moore was a prominent churchwoman and volunteered to help mourning families through volunteer work with the City-Wide Ushers of Monroe. She was a member of the Tabernacle congregation for over 50 years.

Her official obituary reads as follows:

Mrs. Alma Jean Leonard Moore, daughter of the late Albert and Janice Brown Sr. was born October 16, 1939 in Monroe, Louisiana. She attended the public schools of Ouachita Parish and was a graduate of Carroll High School. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was a dedicated member. At Tabernacle, she served faithfully on the usher board for over 50 years. 

She was united in holy matrimony to Johnny Leonard Sr. and Fred Moore who preceded her in death. She was blessed with seven children and host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Moore retired from St. Joseph Nursing Home where she served as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).  As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the candy-store she loved to see kids coming into every day and the smiles on their faces and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life on Thursday, November 7, 2019, at Glenwood Hospital in West Monroe, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her brothers Albert, Norris and Henry Brown and daughter, Jean Leonard-Hawkins.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her sister Janice Reese of Monroe, LA, and children: son Michael Dangerfield of Monroe, LA, daughter Janice Leonard of Sugar Land, TX, daughter Johnnie-Mae Burton of Rosenberg, TX, son Johnny Leonard Jr. of Killeen, TX, daughter Jackie Cassey of Monroe, LA, daughter Joyce Hartwell of Houston, TX, stepmother Francis Moore of New Orleans, LA, stepsons Donald-Ray and Gary-Lee Moore of Monroe, LA, Goddaughter Dorothy Hughes of Galveston, TX and sister-in-law Shirley Browne of Oakland, CA; a host of devoted grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
