Jesus said, “Open My church doors to all of My people!”

By: Dr. Jacquelyn Simmons

Scripture: And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches (Revelation 3:14-22 KJV).

My dear friends,

In a vision a few days ago, God revealed to me a family standing outside his apparently locked church doors trying to gain entrance. The family did not appear to be of any specific color or age.

It seemed to consist of a man, wife, and two children-a girl held in arms and a small boy held by his hand. It was obvious, Jesus intended to show the exclusion of everyone in his church who does not fit into a certain category.

In our text for this message, Jesus Christ is writing a letter to the Laodicean church He classified as “the lukewarm church”. It’s name means “people ruling” and represents the unbelieving, materialistic church of all times. Laodicea was famous for its wealth, bankers, medical school, textile industry, manufacturers of wool, and a popular salve which relieves some serious eye problems. Jesus also labeled it as spiritually lukewarm, meaning nauseating in behavior as Christians. Jesus told them to get medical salve from Him in order to definitely cure their blindnesses and foster the truth in Him and Him only (John 9:39).

Some believers falsely thought that a multiplicity of material possessions are indicative of God’s blessings and those who have less are His punished sinners. What they could see in purchases was more important to them than eternal life in Jesus Christ which will be a reality when He returns for His bride-His church. Afterwards, the greatest indescribable wedding will take place with no danger of infidelities or divorce. Then there will be the most glorious, permanent honeymoon ever imagined.

My friends, please take the time to ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in reading Christ’s descriptions of all of His seven churches and show you what is the category of the church in which you are an active member. If Christ described it as one of His least functioning churches according to His Holy Word, what are you going to do, especially if you are not categorically in the position of pastor or church official?

In Revelation 3:20, Jesus describes Himself as standing at the church door and knocking. If admitted, He will come in and sup (dine) with those persons who are within. But, what about His people who are knocking also and don’t gain admittance? Is their admittance based on wealth, political “clout”, talents, beauty, etc?

God bless you my friends,
