Local church choir director, Monyea Hampton has been appointed to the SouthSide Economic Development District.
The action came in Tuesday night’s meeting of the council. He was nominated by Bishop Rodney McFarland of District 4.
Hampton said on his Social Media post, “It’s an honor and a privilege to be selected by the Monroe City Council on tonight to serve on the Southside Economic Development District to help bring new businesses and to help improve the Southside and to make Monroe better. I will do my best as a board member to make the Southside great and look great. Let’s work together to get things done.”
Hampton is filling replacing Attorney Sarah Smith, who was filling the unexpired term of Preston Hopkins. Smith recently resigned to accept an appointment with the 4th District Court as a Hearing Officer Judge.
Hampton is well known in the local church community as a choir and church music director.
