My dear, dear children! Please do not eat or warm your hands at your enemies’ fires!!!

By Dr. Jacquelyn Simmons

My Dear, Dear Children,

This praying old lady feels that I should try and communicate with you again concerning decisions we all will need to make in a few days. We should decide among ourselves to support one candidate or allow our enemies to succeed and not only sending us in several directions, but be in disobedience to our Leadings as was the prophet in the Biblical account in our text for this message. If he had obeyed God’s instructions, he probably would have survived a while longer and perhaps died peacefully while asleep. However, due to his disobedience, he suffered the consequences of being betrayed by a fellow prophet and died a violent death.

During my “growing-up years”, older people often expressed sayings which had morals in them. In fact, many of our lessons included morals in their content, also. One was, “Do not warm your hands at your enemies fire’s.”

This prophet in the below-mentioned scripture not only lied to his fellow prophet, but persuaded him to disobey God’s strict orders. During our early years in being allowed to vote, some African American ministers were notably courted vigorously by candidates of another race by serving them “chicken” while traveling on their campaign trail in order for them to persuade African-Americans to vote for them.

Well…My children, “chicken” can be served in many ways and for many deadly reasons. Beware!!!

Pray! Love!! Forgive!!! Organize behind one person!!!! Win!!!!! Or be eaten by the well organized hungry lions.

The below-mentioned prophet was deceived by a fellow prophet. Beware!!!

Scripture: Now dwelt an old prophet in Bethel…,and went after the man of God…, and he said unto him…, Come home with me, and eat bread… And he said, it was said to me by the word of the Lord, thou shalt eat no bread or drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest…,He said, unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee…, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him…, So he went…,and did eat bread in his house, and drank water…,as they sat at the table, the word of the LORD came onto the prophet that brought him back…, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the LORD…,And hast eaten bread and drank water in the place of which the Lord did say…,eat no bread and drink no water, thy carcass shalt not come unto the sepulcher of thy fathers…, And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him…( Selected passages from 1 Kings 13:11-26).
