The closed congressional primary is history and candidates are preparing for the general elections in November. Unofficial turnout in Ouachita Parish on June 27 was only17% which was pitiful to say the least. As we approach the upcoming elections, changes in the campaign approaches have to be different. 120,348 more Republicans than Democrats voted in the state on the Saturday, June 27 ballot. Jamie Davis won the Democratic US Senate vote with 80% and Julia Letlow won the Republican vote with 57% in an intense competitive race. The Both of them will face off in November.
The November 3 election should show a higher turnout in Monroe and Ouachita Parish because it will consist of competitive races for District Attorney, Judges and school board. Candidates would be wise to court young voters to emphasize the importance of letting their voices be heard. Some people will take the shirt off their backs to give efforts to causes such as voting. However, some shirts cannot be reached because others refuse to take their coats off.
The current environment has become volatile and people need to wake up and understand that the most powerful weapon they have is VOTING. Once this is accomplished, We can Love where We Live and Live where We Love.
