“Links in Pink”: A Breast Cancer Awareness Symposium
The Monroe-Grambling (LA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and The Witness Project of Northeast Louisiana present “Links in Pink” A Breast Cancer Awareness Symposium on October 29, 2019 at 6:30 P.M. at Mount Olivet Baptist Church located at 500 Swayze Street, Monroe, LA 71201 where Reverend Oliver W. Billups, Jr. serves as Pastor. The event will serve to educate, enlighten, and encourage those affected by breast cancer in our local communities. Our goal is education, which leads to early detection which leads to better outcomes and saves lives. The event will be hosted by local public service organizations including The Mount Olivet Baptist Church Senior Mission; The Omicron Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated; The Monroe Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; The Monroe Metropolitan Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; and The Epsilon Omicron Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. There will be sharing and personal testimonies from breast cancer survivors and advice from lay person counselors of The Witness Project. Educational information will be presented by local physicians in our area including Dr. Tonya Hunter – OB/GYN at The Well Woman Center of Louisiana, Dr. David Norman- General Surgeon at Glenwood Regional Medical Center, Dr. Curtis Sanders – OB/GYN at Morehouse General Hospital and Dr. Cynthia Brown-Manning – Family Medicine at the VA Medical Clinic.
There will also be a chance to ask questions about screening, genetic testing, risk factors, and treatment including recommendations for healthy lifestyle changes, medical therapies, and surgical options. You will not want to miss this amazing event! Please join us in your casual pink attire on this fourth Tuesday evening for an hour of learning and love as we educate, celebrate and honor those touched by this devastating disease. This event is FREE and open to the public.
