Three-year-old throws tennis shoes at cop choking her mother

A three-year-old told police investigators that she threw tennis shoes at a man who was choking her mother; the man was the mother’s boyfriend, a Monroe police officer.

Officer Jonathan Cardale McMillon was arrested on March 19 on a charge of Domestic Abuse by Strangulation in the aftermath of a domestic incident in which he reportedly had an altercation with his live-in girlfriend and choked her after an argument.

According to an arrest report, a fight started between McMillon and his live-in girlfriend around 10 p.m. March 18 and ended at 4 a.m. the next morning. McMillon is accused of throwing the victim to the ground and strangling her.

At some point during the altercation, the victim’s three-year-old threw shoes at McMillon in an attempt to help her mom.
Sheriff deputies reported seeing bruises on the victim’s neck and biceps.

According to the police report, McMillon told deputies there was an argument, and the victim became physical with him.

“When presented with the three-year-old’s testimony, the arrestee admitted to being on top of the victim on the bedroom floor, while he and the kid played ‘catch’ with the tennis shoes,” the report states.

McMillon was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center on March 19 on charges of domestic abuse battery with strangulation.

Bail was set at $15,000, and he stayed in jail until he bonded out on March 22.

According to MPD spokesman Reggie Brown, following the arrest, McMillon was placed on administrative leave with pay pending an internal affairs investigation.

A protective order was issued for the victim until March 21, 2020.
