My Dear Friends,
Perhaps we have suffered in our disappointments or the lost of a friend who we truly trusted and believed that would be there when no one else could be found. Maybe, unexpected sickness has overburdened us and loved ones because we thought healing did not seem possible. Or, persons have pitched themselves against us and began to share false information about us which ultimately could distort our character. Well, all of the aforesaid can be characterized as “giants” in our lives.
Yes, my friends, all of us will be faced with giants at some point in our lives. Uncompromising giants are well known and have “no respect of person”. What is important for us to remember is that these giants give God an opportunity to reveal his power. We must be found trusting in his word, act on what he tells us to do, and have faith and confidence that he will defeat our giants. Commit to memory and your heart, “the battle is not yours, it is the Lord’s”.
In 1 Samuel 17, David, a youth slew Goliath, a Philistine giant. David faced his giant fearless and with confidence that God would defeat this “uncircumcised” problem. The Bible tells us that “David prevailed over the Philistine with the sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David” (17:50). One could easily ask the question, “how can a youth defeat a giant?” Well, the answer is, David exercised his God given courage and faith. He did not rely on his abilities; however, he relied on God. There is nothing we can do on our own to defeat our giants. But, with God, all things are possible.
There are three things that God has taught me through his word when facing giants.
(1) We must study his word and pray for understanding. His word will advise us of how to handle our giants. Everything we need is in the word of God. We can run to him and be safe.
(2) Do not be afraid to stand alone. Sometimes others may be afraid or do not have time to help you battle your giants. Yet, be confident that God is and always will be with us.
(3) Use the weapons God has given us when we go into battle with our giants. We must use the power of prayer and God’s word to defeat our giants. God’s power is revealed when we pray to him, seek and trust him for divine guidance.
