Community mourns death of Cordell Blockson

***Businessman helped hundreds of poor families each Christmas with bike giveaways!

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 16, 2021, for a man praised for his big heart and giving spirit.

Services for local businessman and philanthropist, Cordell Blockson, were held Wednesday at the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and trustee. McFarland Funeral Home handled the services.

Blockson, 71, died on June 10, 2021.

He was the owner of Best-Buy Restaurant on Renwick Street. It specialized in soul food delicacies and was a source of pride in the Monroe Community.

Over the years, Blockson has received praise from the City of Monroe and hundreds of families in the Monroe community. While he is known for many business pursuits, he is most remembered for organizing toy give-a-aways for poor children at Christmas.
